Whole or ground, cloves are originally from Madagascar, obtained from the dried flower buds of the Syzygium aromaticum tree. With their reddish brown colour and strong, pronounced aroma, they add a strong, spicy flavour to any recipe, ranging from stews to traditional Christmas cookies. We recommend using them in moderation due to their strong flavour. It’s interesting to note that it’s been used to fight against halitosis (bad breath) and oral infections by chewing the spice.
